Privacy policy
What Olives collects, why, who sees it and the choices you have. Plain words first, details below.
The short version
- Olives is for two adults. What you keep is private to you until you choose to share it with your partner.
- We collect what we need to run Olives, keep it safe and make it better. Some of that is optional, and you decide.
- We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with advertisers to target you.
- We may use information that no longer identifies you (de-identified and aggregated) to understand and improve Olives.
- You can export your things or delete your account in the app.
1. Who we are
Olives is published by Delam Inc. ("Delam", "we", "us"). In this policy "Olives" means our apps and our website, tryolives.app.

2. What we collect
We collect the following, depending on how you use Olives.
- Account. Your email address, your name or display name, your language, and the identifier Apple or Google gives us if you sign in with them. We ask for your birth date to check that you are 18 or over. We keep only the fact that you are 18 or over, not the date.
- What you keep. Photos, moments, notes, plans, saved places, messages, answers to questions, your olive avatar, and who your partner is. Photos are processed when you upload them and location details embedded in a photo are removed.
- Location, only if you switch it on. If you share where you are, we collect your location while the app is open, either exact or approximate as you choose, and show it to your partner for 8 hours. We keep no location history. You can pause or stop at any time.
- Plan and purchases. Which plan you have and its status. Payments go through Apple or Google, and we do not receive your card number.
- Device and technical data. Device type, operating system, app version, language, time zone, IP address, push notification token, and error and security logs.
- How you use Olives. Which features you open, how often, and how well the app performs. We collect this to understand and improve Olives. Where the law asks for your permission, we ask first, and you can switch it off in You, Privacy.
- When you contact us. Your message and anything you send with it.
3. Why we use it
- To create your account, connect you with your partner and run Olives.
- To keep Olives secure, prevent abuse and fraud, and enforce our Terms.
- To provide support and answer you.
- To understand how Olives is used, test ideas, fix problems and build new features.
- To personalize Olives for you, only if you switch personalization on.
- To send you service messages and notifications. We send marketing messages only if you agree, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
- To meet our legal obligations, handle disputes and run our business, including billing, audits and corporate transactions.
4. De-identified and aggregated information
We may create information that does not identify you, for example counts, trends and patterns drawn from how many people use a feature. We may use and share this information for any lawful business purpose, including research, benchmarking, product development and sharing insights about how people use Olives. We take reasonable steps not to re-identify it, and we do not include the content of your photos, notes or messages in it.
5. Your choices
Olives asks you separately for the things that go beyond running the service. Each is off until you turn it on, and you can change your mind in You, Privacy.
- Location sharing. Off by default. Reciprocal with your partner, pausable, shown for 8 hours.
- Product analytics. Optional.
- Personalization. Optional.
- Marketing messages. Optional.
Withdrawing a choice stops that use going forward. Some features may work less well without them.
6. Who we share it with
- Your partner. Only what you choose to share. Each entry is private to you unless you share it. Your partner can see an entry you shared with them but cannot edit or delete it.
- Service providers. Companies that help us run Olives, such as hosting, storage, push notifications, email, analytics, crash reporting and payments, under agreements that limit how they use it.
- Apple and Google. For sign-in, subscriptions and push notifications.
- Authorities and advisers. When the law requires, to protect rights, safety or property, or to our lawyers and auditors.
- A buyer or successor. If Delam is involved in a merger, financing, sale or similar transaction, subject to this policy.
- Anyone else, with your consent.
We do not sell personal information. If that ever changes, we will tell you first and ask where the law requires.
7. When you unlink or leave
If either of you unlinks, you each keep your own content and entries you shared with each other become private to their authors. There is a 30-day grace period. Someone who has already seen or exported something may keep their own copy, such as a screenshot, and we cannot erase that.
8. Where it is stored
Your information may be stored and processed by us and our providers in Canada and in other countries, including the United States. When we send personal information outside Quebec, we assess the privacy risks as the law requires and use contracts and safeguards to protect it.
9. How long we keep it
We keep personal information while your account is active and as long as we need it for the purposes above. When you delete your account we remove what you authored and your sessions, and you can export your own data first. Copies in backups age out on a rolling schedule. We may keep limited records longer where the law requires or to resolve disputes, and we keep de-identified information.
10. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, withdraw consent, and ask for a copy in a portable format. Much of this is in the app: export and delete are in You. Otherwise write to us and we will answer within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
11. Security
We use reasonable safeguards for the sensitivity of the information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No service is perfectly secure, and we do not claim that Olives is end-to-end encrypted. If an incident creates a serious risk of harm, we will notify the people affected and the authorities as the law requires.
12. Age
Olives is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. For material changes we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect, and we will ask for your consent where the law requires. The date at the top shows the latest version.
